Letting go.

I am not good at giving up control, just ask anyone in my family.  Over the past few years, I have become better at it; not necessarily good, mind you, but better.  I have learned that it is easier to let go gradually than it is to just give up control completely.  I have had time over the past four years to gradually let go of my oldest daughter, Emma.

Oh the Memories


Some time last Fall, my oldest daughter, Emma, asked me if I would be willing to make a quilt for her out of her old high school t-shirts, and she brought a very large bag of t-shirts over to our house for me to use.  I didn’t get around to sorting through the bag until late February, and I started working on her quilt at the beginning of March.

Dear Kids,

Living in this house isn’t always easy. Just like being a teen isn’t easy. You see your friends who seemingly have no boundaries and all the baubles in the world and you wonder why. Why have you been placed in this house where there are horrid things like rules and limitations and boundaries? “What did I do in my former life to deserve this?” you cry to the sky. Well, I hate to break it to you, but you’ve got what you’ve got. Your dad and I believe that it is our job to raise three self-sufficient, independent young ladies and that’s what we’re going to do. There are too many of your friends that are going to flounder and fail when they’re finally unleashed (if that ever really happens in the heli-parent world) and I promise you that you will not be one of them.

December 21 – DHD Photo A Day


I’ve had such a great week with this sweet one, and I hate to say goodbye. While she was here she got to watch him baby sister’s music program, middle sister KSA playing basketball, and see her grandparents off on their trip to Australia.

While she was here I got to enjoy spending time with my grown-up, gorgeous daughter who is full of grace.
